1. Removed the side cover.
2. Slid the worm gear lock off.
3. Removed the line guide nut.
4. Removed the pawl.
5. Slid the worm gear out.
6. Slid in the new worm gear.
7. Put in the new pawl in the line guide.
8. Replaced the line guide nut.
9. Replaced the worm gear lock.
10. Replaced the side cover.

Disassembled the reel, removed wormshaft. Replaced wormshaft, greased and oiled all moving parts. Reassembled.

1 open the left part of the reel
2 remove the damaged worm shaft
3 place the new worm shaft
4 close the reel

Worm gear would get stuck on one side and the line would ball up on that side.

Took out the three screws on the side. Removed the clip holding the worm gear. Slid the worm gear out and slid the new one in. The new one fit just right and I was done in about 5 minutes.

level wind on Ambassador 5000c stopped functioning

I had to remove defective worm gear and replace with new one. You do this by taking off the side panel that does not have the reel handle..3 tiny screws. Would be good to take photos of metal latch that holds the worm gear before removal as it is tricky to put back on. Also take pic of white plastic part at end of assembly so you do n ot put new one in backwards. Originally I thought the pawl was worn out but replacing the pawl did not fix the malfunction..so I had to order a worm gear.

Broken ceramic guide pawl and boogered up worm shaft.

Removed side cover and removed old worm shaft and replaced with new one,then unscrewed barrel nut on bottom of level line guide and removed broken ceramic guide pawl and replaced it with new steel guide pawl had carefully position it until it was in grooves of the new worm shaft, then screwed on barrel nut to secure guide pawl then lubed worm gear or worm shaft worked in by reeling.
