This part is for your hydraulic brakes, where it attaches the hose to the brake lever. The insert is silver metal and the olive is gold in appearance. This kit includes 1 olive and 1 insert. This part is required if you want or need to shorten your hydraulic brake cables.
Cables are often shortened when they are too long, or they are being moved to a new bike. It is common for cables to be too long when purchasing new brakes. When shortening brakes, the olive and connector insert always need to be replaced because they are crushed during installation to form a tight seal between the lever and the housing.
For this repair, you will need a 5 mm allen wrench to remove the caliper, a 3 mm allen wrench and an 8 mm open-ended wrench. To access this part, you will need to remove the brake pads from the caliper. Remove the rubber cover located on the lever, undo the bolt, and pull the line out. You will now be able to see the old olive on the end of this line. The line can now be cut. Before you make the cut, make sure you can spin the handlebars almost 180 degrees around without the cables restricting the movement. Use a hammer to place the new insert into place. It is important that the insert is flush to the cable.
