It is a genuine item that is supplied by the original equipment manufacturer. This part is made for use with Whirlpool residential washers. The lid switch acts as a sensor to allow the washer to start when the door is closed. Unfortunately, over time it may wear out, get damaged or stop working all together eventually requiring a replacement. If the unit does not start, then the door switch could be defective. Note, this high-quality plastic body switch is sold as an individual component. To replace it, you will need a screwdriver to take the housing apart. The switch simply connects to the unit with an attached lead wire.

Washing Machine would fill up but not start
Our machine would fill up with water and then we would have to hit the top of the washer or slam the lid to get it started. The part we needed was easy to find on Ereplacement parts, it was very reasonably priced and delivered promptly. Great experience all the way through.

2. removed the defective lid switch
3. replaced with the new lid switch
4. reassembled and tested
* Be sure that the switch lever is under the lid actuator

Washer would fill, then nothing. No hum, no clicks, nothing, so guessed it was the lid switch.

1-unplugged the washer
2-removed 2 screws from rear of top panel and flipped control panel over to expose switch connection.
3-unscrewed ground wire
4-pulled the wire harness connector out of the lid switch
5-pinched the clamp holding the lid switch in place, and fiddled it out of the hole.
6-connected the new switch to the wire harness (leverage was better to do this before installing the switch into the machine.
7-fiddled the switch into the hole and raised and lowered the lid gently to engage switch mechanism
8-clicked the switch in place
9-screwed in the ground wire
10- plugged the machine back in and viola!
