This part is a black left crank arm measuring 172.5mm long with a hollowtech II spindle interface. Cranks are levers that attach the pedals to the bottom bracket spindle. The cranks have chainrings, which are what drive the chain. The left crank arm has a compression slot that is held in place by two pinch bolts.
Things to look for if you suspect that your left arm crank may need a replacement: are the threads of the pedal stripped? Is it loose-fitting due to a damaged mating hole? Is it making a loud sound like a grinding noise? Is there any noticeable damage to the crank arm, such as a crack or bend?
To remove the left crank arm, you’ll need to remove the pinch bolts with a hex wrench, remove the cap, use a mallet to gently tap the crank arm out of place (may be extra stuck due to dirt and grime). When installing the new crank arm, be sure to grease the crank cap, and be careful not to over tighten. Another tip is to make sure that when you are tightening the pinch bolts, you are alternating back and forth. Once it is installed, check to make sure there is no side to side motion of the spindle in the bearings.
