This package of two 11-speed guide and tension pulleys are made up of nylon and stainless steel. This part is responsible for moving the chain across the cassette, allowing you to change gears. You should periodically pull these out and check them because they are a component that tend to wear over time. When they are worn, the teeth can look sharp or the spaces between the teeth can become wider. They should be cleaned every so often and checked to ensure they are spinning freely. If you notice your derailleur isn’t shifting properly, this is also another indication they need to be replaced.
Be mindful not to mix up the two pulleys, as one is the guide pulley and one is the tension. The tension pulley does not move side to side, where as the guide pulley will have a little bit of a wiggle when pushed with your two fingers. It is also important to take note of the arrows located on one side of the pulley, showing the chain direction. The side with the arrows should face away from the rear wheel. When powering forward the arrows point in the same direction that the chain is moving. This repair will require you to remove the rear wheel. Consult your users manual for any specific torque recommendations.
