Specifications
  • Used On 3 Screw Fuel Pump Mount Carburetors
Description:
This is a genuine OEM sourced pump repair kit designed for use with lawn and garden engines. This kit contains all the necessary gaskets, diaphragms and other parts to rebuild your fuel pump. It helps to fix common problems associated with worn out gaskets or diaphragms, including leaks and sluggish performance and other issues. A fuel pump is used when the fuel tank is mounted lower than the carburetor and cannot rely on gravity to carry fuel through the fuel line.

Replacing these items you would need a screwdriver.

Mower engine surging and would run only at 1/2 choke. Not getting enough fuel.
In my case, removed front sheet metal (hood and grille) from mower to expose front of carb, where fuel pump is located. Easy disassembly of fuel pump (3 screws with 1/4" hex heads). Take care with the two small, fine springs and the new pump diaphragm so they are replaced correctly. No need to disconnect vacuum hose from pump cover, but check it carefully for holes or cracks. Reassemble with new kit parts and you should be good to go. My engine ran well afterward and even started better than before.

Inadequate fuel supply to carburetor
Remove the three screws securing the pump and carefully remove pump from the carburetor body. Remove gasket and diaphragm. Inspect for damage and dirt. Install new gaskets and diaphragm with new pump springs supplied with the rebuild kit. Pay very close attention to the springs that they stay in place. It helps to stack the assembly upside down using the mounting screws to keep the springs, diaphragm, and gaskets in position. Slowly tilt the pump assembly into position tightening the center screw first to keep the assembly correctly aligned. Finger tighten the remaining two screws to secure the pump in the correct position. If the assembly is still in the correct position tighten the three screws and connect the fuel and vacuum lines. You're now ready to test the pump.

Remove the hood per owners/parts manual, detach fuel line from fuel pump, remove three screws holding fuel pump to carburetor, remove gaskets and springs from fuel pump remembering order and replace with kit parts in same order, fit pump back to carburetor, replace screws, tighten screws, replace fuel line. Caution: Check oil before starting and drain and replace oil if gas has leaked into oil sump. Gas in oil can destroy your motor and possibly injure you or others. Fill fuel tank with gas and start mower per owners manual instructions. Replace hood if the mower starts as it should.

Replace the diaphragm and 2 little springs (be careful the springs are small and sensitive) in the carburetor. The old diaphragm looked OK but when I put the new one in ran great.

Lawnmower would not start
Remove the air cleaner, remove the fuel line from the fuel pump. Then there are three screws on the front part of the carburetor, remove them, then be very careful when you remove the cover. There will be one big spring and two tiny ones, one washer, two rubber squares, (which makes the diaphragm) and one cork gasket. Remove and reinstall with the new parts. Reconnect the fuel line. Put the air cleaner back on and start your lawnmower.

Mineral deposits from water Mixing in with fuel.
Pulled the carb off the riding lawnmower, thoroughly cleaned and blew out all orifices and interior parts of the carb including the float and fuel valve. Mind you, this is a 30 yr old unit that has never been worked on til now.

Not getting gas after gasoline level dropped below carburator
Removed the old part. Disassembled it, carefully made a mental note of where the parts go.
2 small springs that came in the kit are easy to lose and hard to find when dropped. One of the membranes has a spring under it. I had to use some liquid gasket to glue the membrane in place while reassembling the pump.

Are both small springs needed in the fuel pump kit? Only one spring is in my current one.

Both springs stretched out of alignment when I tried to untangle the two springs from the package.

Can I get by with the one old spring?
