Mod # GST9630 (PW2 color) WHIRLPOOL (12 Years-4 Months old)
Water Leakage issue
-All water contact parts are suspect-
(this procedure is condensed)

- Insurance is to take camera/phone pics before dis-assemble in stages
(a good idea if needed)

- Remove/loosen control panel (2 screws,, move forward and tilt up
- Remove outside shroud (do not bend any metal tabs)
- Tilt back panel away from unit (do not bend any metal tabs)
- Unsnap top tub cover,, (do not force / break plastic tabs)
- Remove agitator assy (do not force) (take pic if needed in stages)
("agits and thrust washer still performed, but were worn and replaced)
- Use camera phone to document spindle nut assy and order of assy if in doubt
- I used a "tab" vise-grip for spanner nut (had NO spanner wrench)
(this could be an issue, if not done in a doable manner)
- Remove porcelain tub,, clean internal thread,, and lite grease coat
for re-assy
- Spindle shaft will need to be cleaned to slide plastic tub up the shaft
for it's removal, cause no gouging (no scrape marks)
lube shaft to slide upward,,
- Remove plastic tub,, yanking straight up carefully scrape inside of tub clean
and install new tub seal, facing the same direction (take camera phone shot of original to
document if needed
- Remove hoses and Install new pump (2 clips),, align flats on shaft and pump
and slide on,, Reattach 2 clips,, Reattach hoses,, do not over flex hoses
- Both hoses on this unit, at this time were still good
- Bottom main frame, and inside bottom area of outside shroud was cleaned, primed, and
painted in certain areas to address some rusting issues at this time
- Re-assemble in reverse, reattach all level sensor hoses and lid switch wire connector
-- There's a few good "fix it" videos on the web I found very helpful concerning
Whirlpool washers that one may want to look at first
Believe most washers are somewhat the same as to their design
-- In general, unit is very well designed, and engineered, and disassembles easily
without forcing, bending, or breaking anything
-- Main problem was the water pump, but other parts were replaced as found bad
or as part of the larger process while being this far disassembled
-- If this is anyone's first time, move slowly and methodically
