This is an armature for use in various power tools. The armature is what creates power for an electric motor, located inside a magnetic field. To check for a bad armature, you can perform a 180-degree test. Once it has been removed from your tool, stand it up on your work bench and use an ohmmeter to measure the resistance of the windings. You are looking for a consistent reading as you move it around the commutator. If you get an inconsistent reading, the armature is bad and will require replacement.
