Very simple, once one understands that the housing is not a single unit. It really looks like the housing
is all metal but it has two side panels. Once the right panel is removed it is as simple as easing
the belt onto the two spindles. Slowly mate each ridge on belt with corresponding grooves in spindles.
There are no tensioners or need to move center-to-center distance on spindles.

This particular planer, an older Jet portable, has the lifting screw mounted quite close to the installed belt. This screw is in the way of the belt passing on to the spindle pulley. After the belt was mounted on the smaller motor pulley the belt was placed on the knife spindle and muscled on by turning the spindle pulley with great difficulty.
