This cord guard is a genuine Makita replacement part, and it is a direct replacement for a damaged or missing cord guard. Power tool cords undergo a lot of stress, and these cord guards help to alleviate some of that stress at the weakest point--right where the cord enters the tool. Over time cord guards will deteriorate and eventually require replacement. Keeping a strong cord guard on your tool will help will cord life. This cord guard is compatible with the tools listed below, but it is not guaranteed to fit any other power tools.

Saw was bought in the early nineties,and the cord and cord guard is cracked and wore out.

1. Removed screws from the saw housing.
2. Separated saw housings to expose cord connection.
3. Removed screws from switch.
4. Removed wires from switch.
5. Removed old power cord and cord guard from saw.
6. Installed new cord guard on new cord and connected wires to switch.
7. Mounted switch back int o saw.
8. Put saw housing back together and installed screws.

Broken brush case. Worn out cord and guard.

1. Opened the drill case (handle) and cleaned out the collected dirt etc.
2. Disconnected the wires from the brushes.
3. Removed the brushes.
4 .Freed up the power cable from the switch (small screwdriver).
5. Soldered the ends of the new power cord and inserted into the switch.

Broken conductor in power cord

Cord was stripped and brushes were worn out - drill was given to me

1. Removed side case (drill unplugged)
2. Removed retaining brackets on cord positive and negative terminals on switch housing. (Noted which was positive/negative for new cord)
3. Removed cord retention gate at bottom of drill housing.
4. Disposed of damaged cord/old cord guard.
5. Placed new guard and cord into ch annel and secured with retention gate.
6. Snipped positive/negative ends of new cord to correct length and placed ends into corresponding terminals on switch housing, secured with screws.
7. Removed and replaced brush magnets using screwdriver.
8. Double checked all was in order, re-seated case and screwed it down.
9. Performed test of drill to confirm correct installation, checked forward and reverse function, speed adjustment, and gearbox selection.
10. Done!

I simply removed the worn parts and used the new ones as replacements. only tools used were a phillips screwdriver. Just be sure to note how the wires are routed in the case. I did install new ring terminals on the new cord, to insure a secure connection to the switch.

Overall very easy repair.
