When it came to my baby 4" Makita that's worked hard since 1983. Nothing but OEM will due. Bought a used Makita planer at estate sale. It worked but was in bad shape.
I simply removed the worn parts and used the new ones as replacements. only tools used were a phillips screwdriver. Just be sure to note how the wires are routed in the case. I did install new ring terminals on the new cord, to insure a secure connection to the switch.
