First thing you need to do is remove the battery. Than remove mower deck. Not hard to do. Only belt that needs to be removed at this time is the deck belt off the pulley. Leave the rest of that belt in place. Pull deck away from mower so you can get underneath the mower. Now take the battery carrier out so you can see the transaxle pulley
... Read more. 2 bolts you can see that you can loosen so it will make it easy to remove drive belt from pulley. The 2 bolts are belt guides. Now get underneath your mower and slowly pull the belt out. At this time you can remove the idler pulley if you wish. Belt is out, put new one in and new idler pulley.

Removed old belt making sure to notice it\'s path so I could install the new one.
I took pictures to help with my memory!
Reinstalled new drive belt and plastic pulley (which was broken) but had to loosen rear pulley guides on all pulleys.
Had to unbolt and lift up

Remove the deck made repairs on it, removed steering column and broken drive belt idler and drive belt guides. Installed new drive and idler, steering column, and belt guides. Reinstalled mower deck.
Removed old pulley. Ordered replacement pulley. New pulley required me to remove a spacer from the center of the bearing from the old pulley and install it on the new one. This would have been a much easier repair if the new pulley matched the old one identically.
With some common sense and the assembly/parts diagrams that Replacement Parts provided made the job very simple. I was stumped a little and had to refer back to them while making the repairs. Mower would bind and squeal, the belt no speed control,could not shift.
Belts that were on the machine when I got it were B belts normal V type, and what would happen the speed increaser would bind and the mower would lock up. ordered the factory Murray belts and pulleys and come to find out the belts were B type but did not have a V shape more flat. Started by following instructions given in manual but, found an easier way to perform job. Removed deck and pulley plates from underside of mower. Had to use snap ring pliers to remove snap ring from steering gear and remove gear. Pulled up steering wheel to get belt out past it. Installed new belt.
