This is a genuine Dewalt replacement part, it is sold individually. The 648743-00 acts as brush holder for the models listed below. The 636760-00 Brush Spring is positioned behind this part to keep the brush in contact with the armature. There are two of these parts in the tool.
When the brushes failed, the arms that hold them against the armature were damaged. ... Read moreount of force and the replacement case, I\'m back in business. Should have removed the fan so I could see the mount screws with a magnifier (which is what I used) and would have saved the damaged mount/case and made a MUCH simpler repair.
Removed the case
Disassembled the armature assembly
Removed and replaced the brush spring, arm and carbon brush
Reassembled the armature
Reassembled the case
Inspected and tested the unit
Assembly was completed mainly from the rear of the grinder. When one side of housing is off, the next step is to take fan off on top of the armature assembly. I used a flat screw driver between blades and socket at the bottom end (caution of thin blades if brittle). Slide the armature into channel up to carbon brush. Using a flat screw
... Read moredriver, pry up red Arm holding carbon brush and push assembly up until arm is seated by a fraction and do the other side. Regrease metal on metal contact on top, assemble and turn on power. Disassemble top and regrease and your good.
I opened the bottom half of the grinder, (it is in a clam shell configuration). I then removed the arms and brushes using a allen wrench and small screw driver.Then put the new ones in place. Replaced the bottom half the grinder to its original form. And bam I am done easy as pie!
