This authentic OEM sourced replacement part is specially produced for use with Generac portable generators. It is the filter which makes sure that the fuel delivered to the engine is free of any debris or contaminants. Over time it may get clogged and restrict the fuel flow eventually requiring replacement.
I unbolted the instrument panel from the generator. This gave me about 3 inches to reach the fuel valve. I clamped the fuel line between the fuel tank and the valve with a pair of needle nose locking pliers. Wrap some cloth around the fuel line so you do not damage it.

... Read more With a pair of pliers, remove the hose clamps. My generator is about 10 years old and two of the clamps broke. Its a good idea to have extra clamps on hand.
Carefully remove the fuel lines from the valve and the fuel filter. Slip the clamps on the fuel line and carefully re-attach the fuel lines to the new parts. Clip the valve back into the holder. Check for leaks. If everything is OK, re-attach the instrument panel and start it.
Nothing complicated. Just needed to remove the back heat shield panel to get to the spark plug and have ~3\" extension for the socket to get to the spark plug. Everything else was easily accessible. Spent more time cleaning the mold grime off of the generator than anything else.
