I unbolted the instrument panel from the generator. This gave me about 3 inches to reach the fuel valve. I clamped the fuel line between the fuel tank and the valve with a pair of needle nose locking pliers. Wrap some cloth around the fuel line so you do not damage it.

Carefully remove the valve from the fuel valve holder. With a pair of pliers, remove the hose clamps. My generator is about 10 years old and two of the clamps broke. Its a good idea to have extra clamps on hand.

Carefully remove the fuel lines from the valve and the fuel filter. Slip the clamps on the fuel line and carefully re-attach the fuel lines to the new parts. Clip the valve back into the holder. Check for leaks. If everything is OK, re-attach the instrument panel and start it.
