This is an OEM replacement part and is sold individually. Its purpose is to filter out dust and debris from contaminating the carburetor and engine. When replacing the filter you can open the package in comes in and put a bit of two cycle oil in the bag and let it absorb into the filter. Then remove it from the bag and squeeze it with a paper towel to remove the excess oil. This will aid the filter in filtering out the unwantables.
I replaced the fuel line/filter first. Removing the old filter was a chore because of the tight fit of the barbs on the filter. Pushing it out with the pliers, little by little, worked well. ... Read morehole by hand (the plastic fuel tank) so i could get it started through the hole. Tight working space. I used a flat screwdriver to push the filter down into place - inserted through the fuel tank opening - as well as gently pulling on the line & took some work to get it fully seated.
Replacing the air cleaner filter and spark plug were simple and quick. There were 4 torx head screws to remove the cover. The screws also have a slot for a straight-blade screwdriver, but it was worth it to get the Torx set.
Replacing the auto feed line assembly was straightforward, except there is a somewhat hidden setscrew on the inside of the shaft that must be removed. No replacement instructions came with the assembly, so I struggled with removing the old one before finding the setscrew. Once I removed it, the assembly removal and replacement was quick and easy.
The trimmer starts, runs, and doesn\'t leak.
1. I first disassembled the air cleaner from the machine and gave it a cleaning.
2. Removed the carb and throttle connection.
3. Removed fuel lines and fuel tank.
4. Installed new fuel lines. Couldn\'t thread the new line thru hole in the tank since it was on opposite end of tank fill. So, I cut the line in the tank with

5. Went ahead and bought a new carb for $12.99 and installed.
Hooked new lines to carb and new primer bulb.
6. Installed new air filter and put it all back together.
7. Works great, after slight adjustment of the idle screw.
8. No more ethanol fuel for me.

Replace fuel filter in tank, replace plug and install new air filter.
Removed the gas tank and replaced the gas filter and hoses. Also replaced the air cleaner and the primer bulb. The gas filter was somewhat difficult to replace because it must be seated very tightly and there is a retaining clip on the outside to insure a good seal. I took out all of the screws from the handle where the trigger is located. I made sure how the spring and trigger were placed in the handle. I removed the broken trigger and took out the cable. Replace the whole start system and replace the whole carburator part\'s and for good measure I have replaced the reel and the job wet well and the trimmer is running like new condition.
