My DW735 planer eats drive belts. They melt on the pulleys. I use my planer a lot but have replaced at least 5 belts this year.

Tools Used

Screwdriver, Socket set, Wrench Set, A strip of wood with a V slot in end to help align belt.

I removed the main pulley and spent an hour soaking and scraping melted belt residue our of the little crevices and then the difficult task of installing a new belt. The little drive key vanished in the sawdust so I had to replace it. I have watched Youtube demos on replacing belts but there is no easy way. I salvaged the pulley so now have a spare.

There are many YouTube videos that will get you into the planer and have it apart. One thing I was interested in passing along to others though... Getting the belt off and back on again is a chore. I found using the socket wrench to turn the wheel as I was working the belt back on to be very helpful. It may help to use this method to work the belt off of the wheel as well, but I only discovered this putting the belt back on. I also put a drop of CA on the key to hopefully make it less likely it will be lost again.
