This is a Genuine OEM replacement part designed to work with Troy-Bilt Gas String Trimmer. This part is attached to the Lower Boom Assembly and it is what drives/spins the Trimmer Head. It is secured to the unit with Two (2) Screws part #791-182195 (Sold Separately). Internal gears or the housing are not sold separately. Requires a Torx or a Flathead Screwdriver to attach it.

Stripped gears

Remove the screws that connect the gearbox to the lower shaft and slide it off. Slide the new gearbox on the lower shaft, making sure it connects with the lower drive shaft. Then tighten the screws to connect the new gearbox.

Remove the screws from the shaft housing holding the old gearbox on. And remove the old gearbox. Install the new gearbox with the screws. Then just thread the new cutting head assembly to the spindle

Remove the screws that hold the gearbox to the lower shaft and remove the old gearbox. Screw the new gearbox onto the lower shaft and your done. Thank you.

I unscrewed the gearbox and installed the new gearbox to the drive shaft. I needed the cutting head assembly just screws onto the shaft from the gear box. The bump head snaps onto the housing, but I ordered one just to have a spare.

Removed old shaft and head assembly, then removed string cutting head. Replaced with new shaft and angled head then installed old string cutting head

Removed the old shaft. Assembled new gear box on new shaft and coupled it to the main body. Put the new head on and Its working.

Bad Trimmer head, also set screw on trimmer shaft assembly worn out.

Replaced cutting head.
Created repair sleeve for worn out set screw hole on old lower boom assembly
Found new set screw since one did not come with gearbox assembly.
Replaced screws on gear box with bolts so it could be tightened to the new lower boom assembly

I set up the old gearbox assembly and boom with trimmer head. New gearbox and lower boom assembly used for wire brush cut head.

Bearings frozen in gear mechanism

Removed old assembly and checked for damage
Ordered new part
Took new gear assembly a part and found only one side of the bearings were sealed
Applied extra gear grease around exposed bearings and reassembled
Did this to prevent another premature failure.
Unit needs to be sealed to keep the bearings free f rom dirt otherwise youGÇÖll be spending more money on spare parts in a very short time.
