Pulled mower deck from frame. Removed old brake and torsion spring assembly. Reattached the spring to the brake (difficult). My mower is a Craftsman 42" deck. The brake, opposite the discharge side, has never lined up with the belt pulley. Instead of being paralell, it positions at an angle which causes the brake pad to wear at the very edge only. I found it impossible to reposition it for correction. I installed it "as is" and will inspect often for wear. Also, after the deck was reinstalled, I took time to do the leveling. I found that it was way out of line. Refer to this process in the owners manual, it is very important to have a good looking lawn.
