The extension spring goes between the eyelet-guide and the large spool. This is a genuine replacement part used in trimmers made by Toro and Lawn Boy. The spring is made out of metal and is sold individually. A pair of pliers might be needed when replacing this part if it becomes broken.

1. Removed the cord cap.
2. Inserted the new spring and the guide.
3. Oiled all elements to reduce the friction.
4. Tested and ran the device.

Oil made it easier to unscrew cap for maintenance and for line to advance.

Easy fix just remove cap and install spring in middle of trimmer.

Trimmer wouldn\'t feed line

1. Removed old cap drum and spool
2. Inserted new eyelet
3. Rewound the new spool
4. Insert new spring into spool
5. Feed string through eyelet and attach spool to trimmer
6. Hold spool firmly in place with one hand while attaching cap drum with the other
7. Tight firmly with hand

1. Used channel lock pliers to get cap off
2. Took off the cap.
3. Replaced spring and cap,
4. Continued to use the trimmer.

Remove the spool from the trimmer then install the spring into the top of the spool and press the spool in, then thread the cap on.
