This is an authentic Porter Cable replacement part, sold individually. Bevel gear is part of the assembly that raises and lowers the blade on the saw. It mates with another bevel gear just like. It is connected to the 5140083-17 height adj. bolt and then to the 5140083-25 handwheel assembly. The second bevel gear is mounted to the 5140083-14 height worm. They are both attached to these shafts by two 5140082-88 hex hed screws. If the original gear is plastic these must be ordered separately. Used with the table saws listed below.

Bevel gear failure
The saw blade on my Porter Cable table saw would not move up or down. I found that several teeth on one of the OEM 'plastic' bevel gears had broken off. The metal gears offered by eReplacement Parts solved the problem, and replacement of both gears is a must for a long term, trouble free 'fix' of this problem. It was a fairly easy fix, although it required disassembly of the saw. Be aware that 'set screws' are not included with the gears. *(The factory plastic gears are attached with a long screw that does not work with the metal gears.) Also, it would be nice if both gears, and the four (4) set screws needed to attached the gears, were available in a kit, as this appears to be a common failure on these saws.

Teeth factory bevel gears broke, they were made from plastic. Bought these was very pleased these are made of metal. Just loosen the hex screws take off old old gears clean everything put new ones on and tighten

The blade would not go up or down

I had to cut out the old height adjustment bolt out because I could not get to move..
1.To make this easy remove the saw from the stand and turn the saw upside down.
2.Remove the blade and till the blade to 45 degrees. This makes it easy to work on height bolt assembly and height worm.
3.Remove the wheel then remove the bolts and height regulating bolt assembly.
4. I had to remove the anchor block. then remove the height worm.
Remember where the washers go on the height adjust bolt so when you reinstall it in the correct place.

The gears to raise an lower a porter cable table saw are plastic. Over time the plastic teeth broke. The replacements are cast metal which is a big improvement. Be sure to replace both gears, not just the one that broke. The gear pattern is different than the stock gear so you need both new ones for replacement to work. Keep track of the thrust washers because as you take apart gears, washers could fall inside saw. I laid the saw on its side so I could get at it through the bottom. Take pictures as you go

Loosen collars with allen wrench, use a flat head screwdriver to take screws out. Slide the bevel gear off and replace it with the new gear.

You need to take the table top off to get to everything that needs to be taken off prior to the repair. There are a bunch of washers that come off. Be mindful where they go.

****UNPLUG SAW!!!!****
1- Remove Phillips screws from plastic blade housing.
2-Remove plastic blade housing.
3-Remove blade to access and remove 2 hex bolts that hold on the aluminum guide sleeve/block.
4-Remove nut and washer on the bottom of the height adjustment rod.
5-Now the guide block will slide off the height adjustment rod.
6-Using Phillips screwdriver , loosen set screws in the stripped bevel gears and slide them off the height adjustment rod and handle rod.
7-Reinstall new bevel gears and Phillips set screws.
8-Slide aluminum guide block back over height adjustment rod and secure it to the blade housing using the 2 hex bolts.
9-Reinstall washer and nut onto height adjustment rod.
10-Reintall saw blade.
11-Reinstall plastic blade cover and secure it using the Phillips screws.

Had to disconnect table top from saw body so I could install height worm, threaded height worm into housing, then mounted bevel gear on worm and finished threading worm into housing. mounted second gear on adjusting handle. Lubricated gears and slide rod on opposite side of gears.

Took the blade off , put saw upside down on saw horses. Removed leg assembly, removed socket head allens in gears and the colar. Took plastic blade dust guard off, removed screws in the pillow block, took screw out of ways removed ways and sanded clean, removed adjustment rod and collar and bevel gear, pay close attention to where the thr ust washers go for re-assembly. Then remove adjustment worm, take picture with smart phone in case you forget where things go, do this first. Then re-assemble. It took 2 hrs because I left a washer out and had to take apart and re-assemble.

Using an allen key to loosen set screws on stops of hand crank that raisers and lowers blade. With screwdriver removed both through locking screws from bevel gears. Used a socket wrench to remove lock nut on end of threaded rod. You need to remove plastic blade guard on the saw to get to the two allen screws that hold threaded rod in plac e. The new bevel gears are slightly different in size from originals. They do have two threaded holes for set screws on each. Set screws are not provided with bevel gears. Set screws are sold separately. Which I didn\'t know at the time I ordered. I checked at two different box stores and automotive store for the M6-1.0 set screws to no avail. So decided to use one of the set screw holes in each bevel gear as a guide and on the drill press bored the hole through the other side and used the original through locking screw. This worked great to hold bevel gears in place but, due to the slight difference in size had to play with arrangement of spacing washers and had to add one additional washer. Once gears were lined up and saw put back together raising and lowering blade worked better the original gears. Time spent on changing out gears was less then an hour. I followed the advice of one of the others on hear. Moving the blade to the 45 degrees position gives you much more room to work on this. I would recommend ordering the four M6-1.0 set screws when ordering your bevel gears, it will make this replacement faster and easier.

Ordered 2 metal bevel gears from ereplacementparts.com. Start by making sure there is no power to the saw. Move your blade to a 45 degree angle. That\'s an important time saving step!
1. Removed the top of the table saw
2. Remove the nuts and washers at the bottom of the arm shaft.
3. Unscrew that from the casing.
4. Replace both gears.
5. Replace the washers and bolts as they were.
6. Replace the top
