I read the instructions in the snowblower manual. The friction wheel was to be unbolted followed by loosening of the shaft holding the wheel so the old wheel could be removed and the new one replaced. The instructions were to unbolt the bearings but not remove the shaft. However, while trying to remove the old wheel, the shaft came out . Replacing the shaft was VERY DIFFICULT. There are two bearings each with a washer, a chain to mount on the gear, and a yoke with two washers, all in a very tight space. If I were to do it again, I would try to remove and replace the friction wheel by only loosening the bolts on the bearing near the chain. This would hopefully prevent the chain from coming off the gear which was the most difficult part of reinstalling the shaft.

Replaced drive belt and auger drive belt. Replaced drive disc and tensioner spring and pulley. Snowblower 14 years old and all parts were original. Machine would stop driving forward into snow banks. Drive disc worn and drive belt loose. After repairs machine drives like new and all parts fit perfect. I was able to read machines ID label and order the exact right parts from the parts diagrams. I am a professional mechanic so for me it was easy.
