2. Disassembled saw housing covering motor.
3. Carefully removed Red (positive) brush wire and disconnected at switch terminal.
4. Cleaned out and resurfaced positive brush retaining area within main saw housing using a rat tail file. Ensured all dust and particles remo ved from inside motor housing.

Note: How to keep this tool failure from occurring: donÆt keep cutting when your saw blade is dull (particularly after hitting a few nails) as dulled teeth require significantly more power from saw resulting in overheating of brushes and eventual failure by melting the housing.

Could not remove brush caps (fused to holder). Removed end motor trim cap, removed half of the handle to expose wiring. Thought I had to take whole motor apart to install new brush holder, but found out that I could remove brush holder just by wiggling wire through motor (had to tape a wire to wires so when I pulled old brush holder thr ough motor, I could reverse process to install new brush holder). Just watch out for any springs in trigger assembly.

My saw was borrowed so I\'m not sure the symptoms. I do know the brush holders, the brushes and the caps melted all together to the casing. Being the casing is harder than surrounding, it was relatively easy to pull apart. I removed all Phillips screws in order to separate the casing to access end connection of the brush holders. Unscrewe d red wire and replaced with new. I removed the wire crimp tying together the black wires, replaced with new brush holder black wire. Put everything back together and tested. Success!
