This is an Authentic Manufacturer Approved replacement part designed for use with Makita Circular Saws. It ensures users safety when the saw is in operation. It is made out of Black Plastic and it is Sold Individually. Replacing this part is relatively easy you would only need Snap-Ring Pliers and a Hex Key/Allen Wrench to complete the job. • First you would need to take off the Blade by removing the Blade Screw using an Allen Wrench • Then remove the Retaining Ring that holds the Guard on • Remove the Retaining Ring (Note how the Ring is installed) and take off the old Guard • Install the new Guard

Replace blade guard

Pretty easy to do but you do need a snap ring plier to remove the retaining ring that holds the guard on. Since I didn\'t have one, I purchased one at a local hardware store. Removed the retaining ring and replaced the guard. Take note on how the guard spring is attached.

Broken lower guard and worn spring

To remove the guard. Remove the blade bolt, blade and both the outer and inner washer. Then if you have snap ring pliers use them to remove the snap ring, if you don\'t have the pliers you can remove it with a small screwdriver. Notice how the spring is attached to the lower guard and upper guard. Remove the lower guard then replace it an d the spring. Then replace all the other part in reverse order.

Positive brush housing melted due to heavy work load.

1. Disassembled melted positive brush housing assy.
2. Disassembled saw housing covering motor.
3. Carefully removed Red (positive) brush wire and disconnected at switch terminal.
4. Cleaned out and resurfaced positive brush retaining area within main saw housing using a rat tail file. Ensured all dust and particles remo ved from inside motor housing.
5. Installed new brush assy and routed red wire in place and secured to switch.
6. Reassembled saw housing.
7. Inserted new replacement brushes and caps.
8. Performed dry run electrical test without blade.
9. Installed new circular saw blade.
10. Ran test cutting on scrap wood, completed!
Note: How to keep this tool failure from occurring: donÆt keep cutting when your saw blade is dull (particularly after hitting a few nails) as dulled teeth require significantly more power from saw resulting in overheating of brushes and eventual failure by melting the housing.

Uneven cuts

I used two tool only Allen tool and flat screw driver.
1st I removed the blade with the Allen tool and 2nd removed the snap ring with flat screw driver.And I did everything vice verse .

Use wrench to remove blade, use snap ring pliers to remove old guard. Pay attention to have a spring that attaches to the guard goes.

Removed metal clip holding guard in place
Removed broken guard

Hardest thing was removing and reinstalling the metal clip. Took me about 15 minutes to replace guard.
