My 5\" orbital sander was kicking back REALLY hard

I was sanding a door for re-staining, and my 5\" orbital sander was gripping down and kicking back at me, to a point that I was struggling to keep it from flying off the door.
Simply tightening the screws down would have fixed the wobbling, but upon inspection, there were some basic maintenance repairs that needed to be made.
I found the pad was loose and wobbling, causing uneven force and undue kickback. I also found my brake was broken.
My parts arrived within 48 hours and simply removing the 4 screws in the pad of the sander allowed me to remove the broken brake, slip on the new one, replace the conversion pad and get back to work, wobble free.
Given this was one of my 1st large sanding jobs, I didn\'t realize until I repaired the sander how badly it had been malfunctioning before.
I now know that sanding should be relatively effortless, and difficulty and resistance is a sign of malfunctioning equipment.
