This is a genuine Presto replacement part designed for use with pressure canners and cookers. This vent pipe is a safety feature, once the pressure is at a certain point the center of this part will pop up. This will not allow you to remove the lid until either the pressure is released by the pressure regulator or the cooker has been taken from the heat source. It is made out of metal and it is sold individually.

Pressure cooker would blow safety plug due to faulty vent pipe

Removed old vent pipe. Cleaned lid surfaces installed and tightened vent pipe with wrench and pliers ( very snug but not extreme tightening ) installed new safety plug and lid gasket. Works perfect!

Broken handles, bad ring and leaking vent pipe

Removal and replacement was easy. Just follow the enclosed instruction. I cleaned up the pressure cooker after the handle, vent pipe and ring(along with safety value) were removed. The pressure cooker should last another 44 years. The booklets that were purchased were to replace lost/missing booklets.

Removed old vent, put a little food grade anti seize on the new threads, and installed.

Old vent pipe nut was corroded. Locked lid with vent pipe in vise. Removed nut ( the hardest part) with adjustable wrench. Chose not to use WD-40. Replaced part. Used pressure cooker the same day. Pressure cooker used since 1973.
