I purchased this pressure cooker at a garage sale, and it was missing the pressure regulator and the seal inside the lid was dried out.

Removed the old sealing ring - I had to use a knife to start it, as it had not been used in quite some time and it was dried into the lid. Once I got it out, I replaced it with the new one. When replacing a sealing ring, I usually have to kind of squish it into the lid to make it fit. Then I used my hands/fingers and removed the old safet y valve, because I assumed it was as old as the sealing ring. It was very easy to just pop out, and the new one was very easy to pop in. When using the pressure cooker, I placed the new pressure regulator on top and everything worked fine.

The inside of old regulator aluminum weight had deteriorated. Throw old weight in trash place new weight on pressure cooker....should have done it 3 to 5 years ago! Pressure cooker now rocks away with that satisfying slow rocking puff like the day I pulled it out of the shipping box.

After 3 years (?) and approximately 1, 000 use cycles the old sealing ring gasket was becoming ever more cantankerous to force into \'one more\' use. I work with gaskets at the day job and can just touch a gasket and tell how long it has been in service by how hard it becomes with heat and oxidation. Old gasket removed by hand and placed new lively (resilient) sealing gasket in top of pressure cooker and it seals without drama or extravagant tricks. The new gasket seals up before lid is pushed into locking position! Overpressure plug was nice as the old one was very oxidized and hard and becoming reluctant to pressure seal.

The rack! ...The rack was dark, warped and flange was split from forcing a concave depression into a convex dome. Toss old black and brown in trash, drop new shinny rack into place, Twenty years and well past 1,000 use cycles!
