Product Description

?

Genuine OEM replacement part This brush is sold individually, 2 are needed for the tools shown below It is always best to replace both brushes, even if only one is worn. Worn brushes frequently are the cause behind a motor running poorly. Replacing brushes can fix a motor that's operating intermittently. New brushes can restore a motor's electric braking. Carbon brushes are one of the most commonly replaced power tool parts. This is because carbon brushes are wear items, meaning that through friction and use they will gradually wear away until they need replacing. Worn brushes are a common causes of intermittent motor function, reduced electric braking and reduced motor power. A worn-out brush will often be worn down near to the wire lead and can be cracked, pitted, or burned. When replacing carbon brushes, be sure to inspect your armature for burns, cracks, or other damage which can indicate larger motor problems.

The drive pulley worn out causing the belt to go out of alignment, melting the belt and belt guard.

I\'ve got a Delta 22-560. The planer smelt like burnt plastic, so I removed one of the side covers. There are 2 screws at the bottom of the side cover. I then found out that this side housed the chain drives, and they all looked alright. So I then removed the other side cover, and the cutterhead locking handle. This exposed the be lt guard and belt. I then could see that they were all melted and worn out. The belt pulley came loose and the center hole in the pulley was worn too large. So I ordered a new cutterhead pulley, key- way and drive belt. I tried to order a new belt guard but I found out that it was discontinued. So I formed one out of plastic. I then reinstalled the parts and assembled the side covers. While I fixing it, I also replaced both motor brushes and cleaned off the outfeed roller and the infeed roller. For $70.00 in parts, I\'m back woodworking. Better than $300-$400 for a new one.

Slow motor speed, sparking

1) Unplug saw (very important)
2) Remove plate
3) Remove blade
4) Unscrew the upper brush cap (you may need to lower the motor slightly if you have larger hands)
5) Remove old brush
6) Use compressed air to clean brush contact area
7) Insert new brush
8) Screw on brush cap while compressing brush spring with other hand (the most difficult part of the process)
9) From under the saw, do the same procedure (4-8) on the lower brush

Note: You do not have to invert the saw and remove the base, like some videos show (although this might make it easier for people who cannot lie on their backs).

The old brushes were about half the length of the new ones. The failure appears to be from the lack of spring pressure when they are shorter, not the lack of brush material. Also the buildup of sawdust on the armature can reduce the contact area. If you need to use the saw while waiting for new brushes, you may be able to get more life from the old ones by just removing them and cleaning the contact area with compressed air.

I removed the black pulley cover from the end of the motor and replaced the drive belt, then replaced the pulley cover. On the opposite side of the motor I removed the brush caps with a screwdriver, then removed the worn brushes and installed the new ones and replaced the brush caps. The motor runs like new now.

Remove blade and turn tables saw upside down, on floor, to be able to access motor brush on one side of motor. Remove cap covering brush with straight slot screwdriver. Replace brush and cap and upright tablesaw. Lower the motor, as you would lower the blade, untill you can reach the reverse side of the motor for the other brush. Remo ve cap with short stub straight slot screwdriver because of limited room for your hands, and replace brush. Reinstall with new brush and replace cap. Reinstall blade.
