After a 10 min bread dough knead with the hook attachment, the hook stopped spinning, but I could hear the motor continuing to try. How do I know if it's the worm gear or something else?
Dana For model number K45SSWH - December 16, 2023

Hi Dana, Thank you for your question. If the dough hooks will not rotate we would recommend checking the worm gear and drive, and the retainer pin. You will need to dismantle the mixer to verify which part is causing the issue. We hope this helps!

Kithcenaid Classic Mixer: Wife had it really loaded up and it quit. Won't start at all, no response at all when turned on. Is there a thermal overload?
John For model number K45ss - April 21, 2022

Hi John, Thank you for your question. If your mixer does not start, you will need to check the control plate, the phase control board, the carbon motor brushes, the wiring, the planetary, the shaft and the gears. Once you have determined the part you need, please feel free to call customer service. We are open 7 days a week and anyone will be happy to assist you. We look forward to hearing from you!

I have the model # KSM90WH. I no longer can use my dough hook, it stops and makes a grinding sound. Would that be the gear assembly?
Mardee For model number KSM90WH - November 11, 2022

Hello Mardee, Thank you for the question. We suggest checking the Gears, Hub and Pinion for wear or damage. Thank you for your inquiry, good luck with this repair!

I first watched your video on replacement procedures and ordered the \"worm&pinion\" assembly. Then I watched it one more time before starting. I put the video up on my iPhone and played short sections and completed that section before proceeding to the next section.
I had one hangup, that the wires could not be pulled out of t he main casting but a previous repairman had already cut the wire and joined the ends, so I simply repeated what he had done.
I should have cleaned out and replaced the grease but I had failed to buy it
My 50 yr old KitchenAid is ready for another 50 yrs of service.
The video is excellent!

Most people would not try and repair this old mixer, but it was the first gift I gave my wife for our new home. We flooded in Harvey, and the mixer sat under 4 foot of water for 10 days. I cleaned it, dried it and it ran, but I could tell it needed attention. I put all new electrical parts inside and it runs, but I need to set the speed a nd switch positions. Balancing the settings is the hardest part of the rebuild.

thanks,

Craig

Watch the excellent video ereplacementparts.com has produced, and follow their instructions. I replaced the entire unit rather than messing around with the single gear - it\'s a lot easier, and it\'s only a dollar or two more. About half the repair time was spent just trying to remove the pin that holds the planetary. I had to pound it ou t using the punches and my heavy claw hammer. After that, it\'s pretty simple. I have the 1980\'s era K5SS lift bowl stand mixer, which requires removing the head from the stand in order to remove the back two screws that hold the two parts of the head together. I had to use an adjustable wrench to loosen the four large screws holding the head to the stand. I had to pry the head apart due to the old grease acting like glue. The grease in my unit was so old and dried out, it was the consistency of a Kraft Caramel, so I had take it apart and scrape grease off all the remaining gears using a butter knife and toothpicks. This would have gone faster if I had invested in Carb Cleaner as suggested in the video comments. Putting it back together and greasing it up is pretty straightforward, as shown in the video.
