Product Description

?

This replacement part is supplied directly from the original equipment manufacturer. It is specially designed for Toro riding lawn mowers and garden tractors. The gear-pinion assembly is an important component which allows a user to steer the unit. It attaches to the steering shaft, and it interacts with gear-steering. This is an identical replacement for a damaged or a missing part that was installed on a new unit. Keep in mind this high-quality component is made of durable metal and is sold individually. Make sure to refer to the diagrams of your model for the correct installation of the new part. You will need a wrench set to perform this repair.

I removed the gas tank after draining it. I then removed the mower deck in order to access the steering gear more easily. I removed the old pinion gear and pulled the steering shaft out of the frame. The flange bearing was worn out so I had to drive it our from the bottom with a drift punch. I then set the new bearing in place, reinstal led the shaft, and installed the new pinion gear on the end of the shaft. I removed and sharpened blades while the deck was off, then put deck back on and reinstalled gas tank and attached fuel line. Mower steers and cuts great. This is the second time I have replaced that flange bearing...

Removed mower deck, jacked the mower up, removed steering pinion gear, removed electric clutch assembly, slid drive pully down crankshaft far enough to remove drive belt. Reverse procedure to reasemble. Slide steering shaft up and use punch to remove flange bearing, install new flange bearing, I was able slide it in place and get the stee ring shaft through it and position it and push it down with the shaft. Install new steering pinion gear. You must remove the battery and battery box to access belt pullies at transmission. Just watch what you are doing and don\'t get in a hurry.

Lifted mower onto blocks
Removed gas tank for access to shaft
Removed 11/16\" nut from end of shaft
Remove old pinion gear and thrust washer
Lift steering shaft out of way and punch out worn bearing from below with screwdriver
Insert new hex flange bearing and shaft
Reinstall thrust washer and new g ear
Reinstalled old 11/16\" shaft end nut as the one I received was an unusable shiny 10mm brass nut (probably the rack stancion nut) I thought I had ordered
Tightened shaft nut and reinstalled gas tank
Lowered mower and removed blocks then,
MOST IMPORTANTLY, checked and tightened steering wheel hub bolt as it had worked itself loose from all the wobbly action over time from the worn but now mostly new parts.
Works Great Now!
