1. Removed mower deck and moved gas tank aside to gain access.
2. Removed clip from bottom of steering shaft.
3. Jerk up on steering wheel to remove partially - just enough to come out of bearing and leave in place to side of bearing. Steering gear will drop off if you didn\'t pull it off in last step.

... Read moreet extensions to unbolt bearing and bolt new one in place. Pay attention to top vs bottom of bearings. Steering gear won\'t fit back on if you get it reversed.
5. Insert steering column through bearing.
6. Position steering wheel and front tires for steering straight ahead.
7. Insert steering gear on shaft and replace C-clip.
8. Put everything else back on.
The repair was not that hard . Pulled the stearing shaft out just two screws and two bolts then with ring pliers remove snap ring an then then pinion gear and bearing replace with new parts and replace stearing shaft back on mower replace bolts then the two screws job done .

2. Removed the steering pinion.
3. Removed the steering gear sector.
4. Removed the steering shaft bearing.
5. Installed the new shaft bearing (loose).
6. Installed the new gear sector (loose).
7. Installed the new pinion.

Pinion gear would not engage steering gear plate due to a worn out bearing. Could not steer lawn tractor.
It was necessary to remove the fuel tank, steering wheel shaft to replace the bearing. The gear at the end of the steering shaft needed to be removed in order the remove the old bearing. 3. Slide steering shaft out.
4. Remove two bolts holding bearing.
5. Replace bearing using original bolts.

... Read more Using snap ring pliers would have made the job easier. I was able to remove snap ring with needle nose pliers and a screwdriver.
Remove snap ring from pinion gear. Pull pinion gear off. Shove steering shaft up and out of the bearing. Reach up behind bearing and remove 2 bolts. The heads are not visible, go by feel. Once you start to turn them, the threads are visible on underside and you can see if you are on them. Take out old bearing and install new bearing same

Failed to steer properly, and could barely move in forward or reverse
Side panel sheet metal and the fuel tank must be removed to access the steering shaft and bearing. (my fuel line was long enough to allow for the fuel tank to be rested on the engine so I did not drain the fuel)
Remove two retaining bolts from the bearing and slide the steering shaft upward so you can see the retaining snap ring.

Remove and replace the worn out bearing.
Reassemble in reverse order.
To replace the spring. Jack the rear wheels of the lawnmower about 8\" off of the ground (use jack stands for safety) and you will have enough room to replace the spring without removing the mower deck.
Removed e ring, pulled steering pinion and column wheel,replaced bearing with two bolts put steering back thru replaced pinion and e ring. Parts fit perfect

2. Removed snap ring from end of steering shaft at broken pinion gear. Removed gear.
3. Removed plate from frame under steering wheel (in front of seat) to access bearing screws.
4. Removed solenoid screws - moved solenoid to side to access bearing screws.
5. Removed 2 screws holding

7. Installed new bearing by replacing 2 screws.
8 Re-inserted steering wheel with shaft through hole in the new bearing.
9. Installed new pinion gear onto steering shaft and replaced snap ring.
10. Re-installed phillips screws below steering wheel.
11. Replaced screws in solenoid - re-attached battery cable.
Note: Mower deck had to be removed from the mower before beginning repairs and re-installed after repairs completed.
