It was necessary to remove the fuel tank, steering wheel shaft to replace the bearing. The gear at the end of the steering shaft needed to be removed in order the remove the old bearing. 1. Remove snap ring below pinion gear on under side of mower.
2. Remove pinion gear.
3. Slide steering shaft out.
4. Remove two bolts holding bearing.
5. Replace bearing using original bolts.
6. Insert steering shaft.
7. Install new pinion gear and snap ring.

Remove snap ring from pinion gear. Pull pinion gear off. Shove steering shaft up and out of the bearing. Reach up behind bearing and remove 2 bolts. The heads are not visible, go by feel. Once you start to turn them, the threads are visible on underside and you can see if you are on them. Take out old bearing and install new bearing same ... Read more orientation. Tighten 2 bolts. Guide steering shaft down into new bearing. Reinstall pinion gear and snap ring. Good as new. I did not need new gear or snap ring, but ordered them just in case.
