After installing all the safety switches and still nothing, I noticed that the voltage meter wasn\'t moving when I turned the key so I reached my hand back to wiggle the wires and it cranked right up. I guess it had grounded the mower.

The riding mower would not start and, even with the seat up and ignition off, the engine cranked as long as the battery was connected

The ignition switch pulled out with a slight twist. It then unclipped and the process was reversed for installation. For the starter solenoid (relay asm) it unclipped and was located under the seat between the battery and and the starter.
