Control handle broke, Blade control cable broke and Drive cable seized and bracket broken

Charles from Lone Pine, California

Difficulty Level:
Easy
Total Repair Time:
15 - 30 mins
Tools:
Nutdriver, Screw drivers
1 Control Handle very easily snapped into place,
2 Blade control mounted easily without the need of tools. I connected one end to the control handle and wrapped the cable around the handle shaft so there was no sagging and connected the other end to the throttle lever on the engine and snapped the plastic stop into place and it was done.
3.Using a nut driver I removed the drive assembly cover and used a screwdriver to pry cable bracket from the handle. Once the cover was removed the old drive cable was easy to remove and replace without the need for further tools. Once the cover was replaced and new bracket, (which comes with the cable), was pressed into place I started the mower ensuring everything worked. All told all the repairs took about 30 min total and there were no surprises making for a very easy and trouble free fix.

Removed the existing control cable.
The ends were easy.
The middle where it was contained in a holder for both the control & drive cables was nearly impossible. Had to use a needle nose pliers inside the holder to grip the cable and squeeze it and pull to release it from the holder. A frustrating process.
Easily insta lled the new control cable.
Mower started instantly.

One end was broken so need to remove it.....Removed old cable by prying cable out of guide and removed end near engine by twisting until I could pull it out of holder
(would have been nice to have some instructions with new cable and a new guide that holds the cable on the handles)
...connected end of cable near handle bars fi rst, pushed cable into old guide and then twisted and push end of cable near engine.
Engine started right up.

Removed the old blade/motor control cable.
It was very difficult to remove the old assembly. The locking collars on the cable\'s sheath were hard to disconnect. The collars snap in but are almost impossible to remove.
I finally cut the old sheath/cable and pulled the collars out of the mower\'s mounting brackets.
