Product Description

?

This is an authentic OEM part for use with Craftsman Chainsaws. The recoil starter repair kit replaces the parts of the engine\\\'s recoil starter susceptible to normal wear. The most common reason for replacing the recoil starter repair kit is if the engine won't turn over when starter rope is pulled the Starter rope pulls too easily (and without resistance) the Starter hub is not engaging the flywheel or the Starter hub is not turning with the pulley (when the rope is pulled). This part includes starter pulley the assist spring and the starter hub. Here is a list of tools that are needed to install the recoil starter repair kit Phillip's screwdriver, Torx drivers, long-nosed pliers, and scissors or wire cutters (optional).

Mainly the small recoil spring and itÆs plastic were damaged. I recommend to change all the parts that in the repair kit. The large spring was ok.

I recommend you search you tube. You remove four torx screws. Lift the housing and in the inside remove the center screw. If changing rope and everything else, be careful with the spring behind the rope wheel. It can hurt you if releases itself out of itÆs place. If reusing the same one, you can recoil it with a drill. Search the video in you tube. Materials include small board, a drill and nail and some ties or a rubber band. The rest goes in reverse. After you have the rope wheel engaged with the spring below then turn it clockwise until it stops. Hold it securely and lock it with a stop or screwdriver and insert the rope and hold it with the small screw. Let the rope coil counterclockwise. Finish with the knot in the handle. I recommend to take photos before you dismantle the assembly. When you have dismantled the starter, you will probably see what part or parts are damaged or worn out. Wearing eye protection always.
