This is an original part from Shimano. The ball bearing is designed for use with several fishing reels. This metal item is fitted between bearing thrust washer and the bearing seal. The ball bearing helps to secure the drive shaft, reducing friction for smooth operation. The ball bearing is sold individually. A screwdriver and pliers are needed for the replacement.
I received a Shimano Torium 50 that was sitting in the back of a truck for who knows how long.
It looked liked a lost cause, but I decided to try to repair it anyway.
