This is an authentic manufacturer approved replacement part designed for use with Shimano Reels. The pawl cap is attached to line guide. It has internal threads that secure the part to the line guide. Simply screw the cap on using a flat-head screwdriver. This part is made out of plastic and it is sold individually.

Pawl cap was split,resulting in not enough pressure for the tooth to engage the worm gear.

Take off the old cap leaving the gear tooth in place.
Replace with new screw on pawl cap.

Took reel apart and replaced pawl cap and spacer very easy,and while reel was apart greased and lubed bearings ,and internal parts ,and new line ,reel is like new again

The top of the cap had broken off

1. Remove the remnants of the old cap by twisting counter clockwise with small pliers.
2. Clean the post threads with a toothbrush and cleaner. 3. Check the post threads and lubricate with silicone spray or light oil.
4. Drop the gear pin in place under the cap and lubricate
5. Screw the new cap in place being care ful not to cross-thread it as the threads are very small.
6. Test movement of the mechanism by cranking the handle.

Shimano reel missing the pawl cap and line guide pawl. Reel would not work.
