This is an original Generac replacement part manufactured for use with portable generators. The foam pre-filter traps dirt along with the main air filter to prevent contamination inside the engine. The filter can be cleaned but eventually will need to be replaced as part of normal maintenance. This air filter pre-cleaner is sold individually.

drained the oil, filled with new oil. removed old air filter and spark plug and replaced with new.

Typical oil and filter maintenance is not complicated but doing it myself saves on mechanical fees. Also, hauling heavy equipment to and from a repair shop is not convenient.

1.Remove cover.
2.remove air cleaner pre-cleaner
3. I decided not to clean but replace because of existing filters age, plus new filters were inexpensive. Remove old pre-filter and air element
4. Soak pre-cleaner in oil[I used compressor oil].
5. clean inside of filter housing with a damp rag and dry.
6. Inst all element filter.
7. I laid the pre-filter on a folded \"Rag in the Box\" and pressed out all excess oil with second rag on top.
8. Carefully place pre-filter into cover at correct location and install cover back.
9.THE FIRST TIME i DID THIS I NOTICED BY THE MARKS ON THE PRE-FILTER THAT IT WAS NOT FULLY IN THE RIGHT PLACE SO BE CAREFUL DOING THIS!
