Product Description

?

Genuine Craftsman replacement Wheel Tire for Bandsaws. This part is made out of Rubber and is Sold Individually. When putting the tire on a band saw Wheel, it may seem too small but it is not. Band saw Tires will typically come approximately 2 or more inches smaller than the Tire you're replacing. The old Tire stretches over time thus becoming less effective and eventually will break. Also, as Tire ages the rubber hardens and allows the Blade to slip. You would need to put the New Tire in Hot/Warm Water to heat the tire enough to make it pliable enough to stretch. Its preferred to use two people in the stretching process.

After clearing the drive wheel of debris from the broken tire I noticed that the new tire had to stretched quite a bit in order to be installed properly. Since the tire had a habit of sliding off the wheel when stretched too far, I secured it with quik set clamps as I slowly stretched the tire and seated it on the drive wheel insuring tha t it was set within the small groves of the drive wheel. After insuring it was, I left the cover off and started the band saw, adjusting the drift of the blade to the center of the drive wheel to insure it would not fly off again. Then I reinstalled the cover and then proceeded to make a test cut. All went quite well. The saw operated better than before. Thanks for the great service in delivering just what I needed.

Worn out upper tire and missing lower tire (used for years without tire)

Replacement tire is approximately 9 inches in diameter when relaxed. Wheels are 12 1/2 inches in diameter. Could not stretch the tire to fit while wheels where on the saw. Removed each wheel... mounted them on spindle clamped in a vice with wheel in a horizontal position... clamped a portion of the tire to one point on the wheel... pul led the tire over to the opposite side of the wheel and clamped it to the wheel ( 180 degrees from the other clamp)...while clamped, pulled one side of the tire over the wheel...repeated the other side of the tire... then slipped a thin blade between the wheel and the tire to center the rubber. worked the blade around the wheel.
Because of the small rubber tire diameter compared to the wheel diameter it was pretty laborious to mount the tires. But I got them mounted and the saw now tracks well and works fine.

Pulled cover off of housing.
Removed old tire from wheel. (Blade was thrown off, inspection revealed crumbling rubber tire)
Ordered replacement.
Opened package.
Installed new tire by hand. Simple. I don\'t understand why people talk about a struggle... put it like this:
I stretched tire over wheel without an y other tools. No screw driver. No clamp. In 90 secs.
When I realized it was so easy to get off, I removed tire, rubber cemented tire, and MY 11 YEAR OLD SON restretched the band over the wheel!
Whole repair (replacement) took about 7 mins.
Easy.
