The Transformer ballast unit was bad.

1. Removed the lamp unit from the range hood
2. Replaced the transformer ballast unit along with the lamp ends and the light switch ( the components that the ballast wires go to since I was in there and they were inexpensive.
3. Reassembled and reinstalled the lamp control unit to the hood.
4. Turn on the switch and e verything works like new.

This repair was easy and probably cost only 10% of what it would have cost if I brought in an electrician who would have wanted to replace the entire range hood unit instead of replacing old components.

Replaced it.
However, I didn\'t know what it was called, the kitchen fan/light was twenty five years old, and the local stores were no help.
EReplacementParts provided diagram of the exact fan/light, identified the part, said it was available, and shipped two the same day.
With an available online film, the repair was easy and satisfying.
