The wear on the chuck/key was hardy distinguishable but just enough apparently that it would not lock/hold the gear, which is necessary to allow replacement of various collets. Separate slightly from the working end opposite of the power cord and just enough to expose the key to be replaced. Remove the old pin. Replace pin and spring exactly as you observed the old one in place. Re-install the two halves and screw back together. Note: The part is small. The exposed blue plastic button comes separately from the small chuck/key. It must be pushed on to the chuck/key (one way only). It is hard to do. I softened the button with slight heat (a match, but blow dryer would likely work better). Just enough to facilitate sliding the button on to the key but not so much that it wouldn\'t be solid when completed. Put the two body halves back together. Don\'t over tighten screws. Slip the motor bushings back into place and replace the covers. Careful. These are plastic and are meant only to keep out dust.
