Took the handle apart and removed olw switch and replaced with. The new one
Took off broken table lock and replaced with the new one
Removed the front of the Jig saw and installed the conversion kit

Root of the problem was crack in handle which prevented raising of planer.

Replaced cracked handle and related parts.
Removal of the original handle and grip were the most time consuming part of the task. It appeared that some sort of adhesive had been applied around the grip attachment bolt and this extended the disassembly of the failed handle and grip.
