Product Description

?

This Trigger type VAR switch has 4 internal terminals and a locking mechanism. This genuine Makita replacement part is sold individually. Switches are commonly replaced parts in power tools. A switch handles on/off and variable speed functions. They also have a role in electric breaking; they can momentarily reverse electrical polarity. Because switches use mechanical internals, they will degrade and wear out over time, eventually requiring replacement. Some common signs of a broken or failing switch are: • The tool has completely stopped functioning • it will not turn on. • The tool operates intermittently, requiring multiple tries to turn on, until eventually it won't turn on at all. • The variable speed function and electric braking aren't working properly.

The new switch would not fit in the handle because of the push button speed lock. All one has to do is cut down the button head with a file or small grinder and sand the edges. Button does not stick through as far as the old one but it is usable non the less. I never use the lock anyway. Works great.

Remove the old style handle cover. Make a wiring diagram. Remove the cord wires from the switch and remove the other wires from the switch and remove it. Install the wires on the new switch, then place the dust cover on the switch. Place the switch in its place , then screw on the switch handle half.

Tested to see if power was going thru the power cord, then the switch.
Then to make sure the switch was bad, I bypassed the switch and put power to the motor, the drill was secured. The motor spun.
Replaced the bad switch
Replaced the the brushes, just because I had the drill open and due to its age.
I cleaned t he armature.
I regreased the bearings.
Put the unit back together.
Retested the drill again to if turned on, it did.
Job done.

The drill was an older style drill so I ordered the switch and the the updated handle cover.
Removed the old handle cover, then made a wiring diagram of the switch wires.
Removed the old switch and installed the new one.
Install the new handle cover.
Now it works like new again.
