This is an authentic Makita replacement part manufactured for use miter saws. The metal center cover fits between the safety cover and cover plate and is used to support the torsion spring that keeps the safety cover in position over the blade after making a cut. This center cover is sold as an individual replacement part, please see model diagram for associative parts.

The lifting mechanism for the guard is terribly engineered and wears out quickly, especially if it is at all loose.
