I recommend you search you tube. You remove four torx screws. Lift the housing and in the inside remove the center screw. If changing rope and everything else, be careful with the spring behind the rope wheel. It can hurt you if releases itself out of itÆs place. If reusing the same one, you can recoil it with a drill. Search the video in you tube. Materials include small board, a drill and nail and some ties or a rubber band. The rest goes in reverse. After you have the rope wheel engaged with the spring below then turn it clockwise until it stops. Hold it securely and lock it with a stop or screwdriver and insert the rope and hold it with the small screw. Let the rope coil counterclockwise. Finish with the knot in the handle. I recommend to take photos before you dismantle the assembly. When you have dismantled the starter, you will probably see what part or parts are damaged or worn out. Wearing eye protection always.

1. Obtain a parts breakdown diagram for your trimmer.
2. Using the above, determine what has to come off and how to get it off.
3. In my case, the shaft came off first by removing the Allen bolts. Tip: spray bolts with Kroil Oil or equivalent.
4. Remove the clutch cover by removing 4 Allen bolts. top cover comes off and lower cover just comes off next exposing the clutch.
5. Remove the clutch by following the directions on the clutch. Keep parts in order/together as you remove them.
6. Remove the cover right below the clutch with the starter rope assembly.
7. Replace the starter rope and the spring.
8. Reassemble in the reverse order.
9. Now put on the rope handle pulling out the rope until the spring holds the rope handle flush to the case. You adjust by adding knots down the rope as needed to get the handle flush.
10. Test the repair.
