*Splitting the case involves not only the torx screws but removing a u shaped clip at the back of the battery compartment. I popped it out with a small screwdriver holding the drill upside down so that the clip wouldn\'t fly across the room.
Only slight rotation & smell of burning plastic when trigger engaged - impact driver/drill dropped, forward/reverse switch broken

2) Removed broken forward/reverse button
3) Removed motor assembly from unit
4) Removed planetary gear box with two screws & two wires (both w/push-on clips) from motor
5) Replaced broken forward/reverse button

6) Installed motor assembly into two plastic halves of drill/impact driver
7) Installed u-clip in bottom of handle and re-installed all torx screws
8) Tested with freshly charged 12V battery, problem solved -
9) Bought parts based on guess guided by experience - issue was bad/burned out over used motor
Motor had bad spot were it would stick and to free it I used driver to move fan a little then it worked
