This replacement valve plate assembly is a high quality item designed for use on Craftsman air compressors. It is a genuine manufacturer sourced item that is used to control the airflow into the cylinder. Once the piston starts traveling up, the reeds on the valve plate open and air is sent into the air tank. Overtime the reeds will get worn eventually requiring valve plate replacement. One metal valve plate with reed valves and two rubber seals are included in this assembly. When replacing this valve plate assembly it is also a good time to replace the head gaskets which are sold separately. You will need a wrench set to complete this repair.

If it had the right seals as illustrated on the pict it wouldve been a 5 star rating. Good part, good quality. Luckily for me, I also ordered the piston rebuilt kit which also includes both seals and the piston kit (also from this vendor) had the right seals.

Removed piston/rod/Reed plate and pressure switch. Installed all new parts and a new rod roller bearing purchased locally. Was informed that the pressure switch for my compressor was obsolete, but I found one that you carried that was real close. It went on perfectly and adjusted to proper pressure. Compressor works like new.
Saved a ton of money not having to buy a new or even used compressor. Very happy.....

On low pressure cylinder:
- Removed valve plate assy, piston/rod, and cylinder.
- Installed new cylinder.
- Replaced piston seal: removed piston top, replaced seal on piston, put piston top back on piston and hand tightened screw a bit, inserted piston in cylinder, finished tightening piston top screw.
- Attached piston rod to crank, replaced fan.
- Placed and tightened new valve assembly with new o-rings.
Removed/replaced external regulator.
Did not address high pressure side, parts are no longer available.
Still, compressor does build pressure good as new.
On low pressure cylinder:

Disassembled per the instructions. Total of 10 bolts, nuts, screws. Repair went well. The only thing that happened after running it for a day or two the rubber washer on the discharge line let loose. I replaced it when I had the line apart, not sure what happened. Put in a new o-ring after bending the line a bit to relieve some pressure on the line. So far, so good, not crazy about the o-ring design though. If it malfunctions again I am going to go to a different type of line.

I already had the compressor apart. I replaced the valve plate with reed valves installed, bolted the plate and head back on & tightened them. Reconnect the air line and re-installed the covers. it worked and built air better than it had in years.

After receiving the correct parts, Used the socket set to take the head off of the compressor unit. Used the wrench set to loosen the air tube. Replaced the head and gasket units, the replaced all parts in reverse. Easy fix and lots of help from the Ereplacement staff.

Screwdriver, Socket set, Adjustable Wrench, Torque wrench to re-torque your head bolts.

This repair was fairly easy to do. first I made sure to disconnect electricity. Made sure I had good lighting for inspection as I went through this process. Safety and success was my goal.#1used a Phillips or what some people would call a star screwdriver to take the three screws from the housing cover very easy to do.Remove plastic housing Cover. #2 with adjustable wrench I removed airline or air tube from the valve plate assembly and head.#3 From my socket set I used ratchet and matching socket To gently remove four head bolts.#4 I then took the valve Plate assembly and head off the unit and started my inspection. Carefully By visual inspection I checked the head the piston, piston sleeve and other O-rings. After inspection I could clearly see that it was time to have fun and put my unit back together.#5 With new valve plate assembly in hand, with new O-rings installed on it I’ve joined valve plate assembly and head together set back on unit. Replaced the four head bolts securing them down. (I must mention,)(there are a lot of people that would not understand or know what this tool is but this is a must to get this right). you need a torque wrench. and you must torque these four head bolts to proper torque specifications. Referred to owners repair manual for your unit notated torque specifications. Otherwise your head and valve plate may not be fastened to the rest of the motor correctly. Which can Result in motor not to function properly leaking air, Possibly creating unnecessary damage To your unit. #6 Reconnect airline or air tube to Head and valve plate assembly, do not over tighten.#7 Replace plastic housing cover securing your mounting screws.#8 Now you’re all finished Connect your compressor to electricity turn compressor on keep an eye on your compressor pressure gauges and enjoy.

Parts Used
Removed valve head and unscrewed top of piston that is held with star screw to bottom part of piston, replaced new ring by pushing top half of piston with ring down into piston sleeve and reattached to piston, without having to remove piston from bearing. runs like new again 5 star. Parts came fast and the wright ones!
