If you have not done this type of repair highly recommend looking at 'you-tube' for transmission repair for your model. There are several videos available and I looked at all of them. You have to remove quite a few parts on the underside of your mower to replace the transmission. Also recommend replacing drive belt while your at it. Two springs have to be removed. u-tube was great in showing how to loosen them. When you get the new transmission in place, rotate it and hook up the tension spring first. Then do the tension spring on the blade clutch. Make sure you remove all snap rings on the axel assembly. That is where the vice grips come in handy to release tension on the wheel adjuster so you can rotate the snap ring to get at it. Important to make sure you remember how all the spacers and washers are placed so you an get them on the right way. Completely remove all the blade clutch parts so you can get at the pully to remove and replace drive belt. Make sure you scrape all the grass from underside the mower so you can access the necessary hardware. Which is all metric. Everything went back together smoothly with no parts left over. There are several spacers to remove and replace to get the plastic panels on the underside. Make sure you remember where they go. Don't lose any parts, especially the little keys and springs that are under the wheel drive gear. When replacing the drive gears, make sure the inside flats on the gear are facing the right direction or when you engage the transmission the mower will not go forward. Again, you tube was in-valuable in making this repair. It is an expensive repair, about $260 for the transmission, drive belt and drive gears. I almost decided to buy a new mower to replace this one, but Honda makes good equipment so decided to repair it. I was quoted $500.00 by a mower repair shop to replace the transmission. So you can save labor cost, plus a great learning experience to see just how this thing was engineered and put together.
