The amount of pressure that is applied to the trigger the more speed you get. A screwdriver will be needed to repair this part. This is made of a high-quality plastic and is sold separately.

Parts Used
1. Unscrewed all screws holding the trimmer housing together.
2. Pulled old trigger off of its shaft.
3. Replaced with new trigger. (Just slides off & on)
4. Screwed the housing back together.

The repair was fairly simple. I just took the trimmer motor housing apart. I took a picture of the internal parts so I would know where they went, especially the springs, removed the broken trigger and replaced with the new one. eReplacementparts.com parts diagram of my Ryobi 40 volt trimmer made identifying the right part easy. Will use again.

Remove 15 Allen screws, replace parts and reassemble. Needed one long allen for one screw in the handle (M4 x 30). All the other screws were M4 x 15. The gas trimmer only has 3 screws. Mine was the battery powered one.
