Replaced part. Only recommendation is to put a little oil on the new screws and pre screw them into the part to thread them properly before reassembling the retainer and bearing holder. The "self tapping" was easier once I lubricated the screws and could be sure I was tapping them straight.

I couldn’t get the self tapping screws to thread. I had to tap it myself. That worked very well. Everything went fine after that

    Tools Used

Everything went well after I tapped my own new holes. It almost seemed that the screws were too large for the pre-existing holes in the retainer. I was afraid that it was going to split the retainer holes so I used a tap and then used your screws which worked well, after that, the retainer made my sander a new machine

    1) remove three star drive screws attaching the sanding sanding pad to the bearing holder and remove the pad
    2) remove the star drive screw and washer that holds the bearing housing to the motor shaft. If required, keep the shaft from turning by placing a screwdriver into the fan assembly via the dust port.
    3) remove the bearing housing and bearing from the shaft. If reusing the housing, gently pry the two halves apart to remove the bearing.
    4) place the new bearing in the housing, being careful to align the screw holes. Gently tap the bearing housing together, ensuring the halves close evenly.
    5) reassemble in reverse order.

Screwdriver, Impact driver, dowel, mallet, wood blocks

    1. Removed three self tapping screws.
    2. Bearing was firmly seated in retainer.
    3. Drove out bearing by supporting retainer with blocks of wood and driving bearing with dowel and wood mallet.
    4. Reassembled - needed to use impact driver because the self tapping screws are very difficult to drive in the new retainer. (I ended up driving the screws into the retainer before assembling, removing the screws, and then assembling the unit.)
