How to Replace the Guard Spring on a Skil or Bosch Worm Drive Saw

When the guard spring on your Bosch or Skil worm drive saw fails, you will want to replace it because a guard that isn't working properly makes for a more dangerous saw. Luckily, the repair is fast and easy and you can complete it at home in about 15 minutes.
Before you begin your Bosch or Skil repair, be sure to get the right Bosch parts and Skil parts for your saw.
Replacing the Guard Spring
1. Remove the saw blade
You can lower the guard to make removing the blade a little easier. Then just remove the nut and slide the blade away from the saw.
2. Remove the spring
Use your needle-nose pliers to pull the spring away from the notch on the top of the guard. Then just slide the spring through the notch.
Now you can slide the spring out of the mount on the lower guard.
3. Identify your type of spring
There are two types of springs: one with a flared bottom (the type we used for this repair) and one with a bent wire. If you have the flared-end spring, you can just slide it in and out of the lower guard. The spring with the bent wire needs to be hooked into the hole on the lower guard.
4. Install the spring
Thread the spring through the bottom mount.
Guide the spring through the top guard then use your pliers to pull it onto the attachment point on the top guard.
5. Reinstall the blade
Now just reinstall the blade to finalize the repair.
